Meta-morphic: Introducing Huang Yuxing

Huang Yuxing, one of the most in-demand contemporary artists in Asia, launches his first NFT collection — exclusively with LiveArt.

Huang Yuxing was born in Beijing in 1975 and graduated from the Mural Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2000. Huang’s works have already passed the $8-million mark at auction, most recently via the sale of his epic riverscape Seven Treasure Pines (2016–19) which sold for HK$64.8 million ($8.3 million), more than 13 times its high estimate, a record sum for a Chinese artist born after 1970.

Huang Yuxing is widely recognized for paintings that reflect and preserve the process of their creation. His work’s exceptional synthesis of styles has broad appeal, with imagery that calls back to traditional Chinese landscape painting rendered in an ultra-contemporary neon palette that verges on abstraction.

In 2012, Huang Yuxing created works including Trees, Trap and Melting Pot. Rich fluorescent color meets conical and elliptical geometric icons, forming a unique landscape and pushing Huang’s creation to the next stage.

The earliest River and Bubbles were also created at this time. In this series of works, neon colors of different thicknesses overlap and intersect, and the smooth curves form bubbles of different sizes, with strong and sensual colors. While Rivers and Bubbles are inspired by nature, Treasure is inspired from within. The infinite repetition of the oval shape, protean in form, creates a sense of surrealist dynamism. These creative elements are important themes within Meta-morphic.

The changes in Huang Yuxing’s style are considered to be closely related to his deepening understanding of the world. His time in Tibet bears significant influence on his worldview and creativity.

“I have been interested in Tibetan culture and Buddhism since college. Although it faded a bit later, there was a period from my first year in college when I was particularly fascinated by it. I traveled to Tibet and lived in the monasteries and got acquainted with real people there, which completely changed my view of Tibet and developed another worldly perspective on things.” Huang Yuxing

Huang Yuxing is excited by the capabilities of generative art and this comes as a much anticipated journey into web3. “There are a hundred kinds of gems in a hundred people’s hearts.” Huang hopes that through Meta-morphic, the audience can discover the unique gem hidden in their hearts.
